Woman stabs estranged boyfriend, then goes to work to drive students to Syracuse school, police say

Syracuse, N.Y. — A 32-year-old woman assaulted her boyfriend Monday morning, then went to work and drove students to an elementary school in Syracuse, police said.
Zakia Hill, 32, was charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Kieran Coffey, a spokesperson for the Syracuse police.
Around 7:53 a.m. Monday, Syracuse police officers responded to the 100 block of Grumbach Avenue for a stabbing complaint, Coffey said.
When officers arrived, they found a 36-year-old man with cuts to his head, left shoulder, left leg and right hand, Coffey said. The victim taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, he said.
Hill fled the scene before police arrived, Coffey said.
Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said the man was Hill’s “estranged” boyfriend.
Around 9:20 a.m., Hill was arrested at Dr. Edwin E. Weeks Elementary School, Coffey said. Amanda Hull, the Syracuse school district’s director of media, said she was arrested off school grounds before school started.
Hill is employed for a transport company that provides transportation for students, Coffey said. She transported the students in a Dodge Caravan to the elementary school after the assault that morning. She was also driving the van with her child in her lap, he said.
Hill was employed by Aladdin Transportation LLC, who transports students for the Syracuse district, Hull said. She said Hill took three children to the school.
A driver of another Syracuse district school bus stopped and tried to help the stabbing victim, Hull confirmed. That driver works for First Student bus company.
Hill was taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center and was released on pre-trail release, said Tom Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
